I can’t wait to share with you Holly’s story. Whether you’re a parent, a teacher, or already an advocate, you’ll find some way to connect with Holly Johnson, today’s guest, and her sunny outlook! Holly is an elementary school special education teacher, who learned a lot about life during the COVID-19 pandemic, took the ABC Course and is on her way to becoming a special education advocate. Holly and I talk remote learning, pandemic parenting, teacher burn out, and all things advocacy in today’s episode, but we do it with a side of positivity and optimism. Holly’s a “lemonade” kind of advocate, and you’re not going to want to miss her story!

Meet My Guest:

Holly Johnson is a Special Educator, who just completed her 20th year of teaching. She takes great pride in building strong relationships with her students and their families and believes that integrity and compassion are at the heart of serving her students and their families.

Holly understands the uncharted territory of being a parent during the Pandemic where she watched her own children go from thriving in school to failing and disengaged. She witnessed first hand the difficulties in advocating for her own children, as she juggled her “Mama Bear” hat and her “Educator” hat, while trying to keep her emotions out of it. It was this experience that inspired her to seek out a way to help a broader community than the one she can reach within her classroom.

Holly has partnered with her friend Chasity to form Johnson Advocacy & Consulting. She is ready to take the big leap as her business and podcast “The Empowerment Project” is launching later this month. She can’t wait to help others remove the obstacles that are making it difficult to feel like equal team members in the IEP process.
