Ashley Barlow graduated Magna Cum Laude from Miami University with a BS in German Education (K-12) received her JD from Salmon P. Chase College of Law in 2006. In a former life, she was a German teacher in Jefferson County Public Schools and Cincinnati Public Schools, having taught nearly every grade from K to 12. She also taught Real Estate and Business Law at Miami University. In her job as an attorney, Ashley’s areas of practice include special education, family law, and special needs estate planning.
In the Summer of 2020, Ashley launched Ashley Barlow Co., an online business, which provides free and paid resources for parents, school staff and community members that are on IEP teams. The company offers downloadable checklists, guides, and workshops; a video training course; and a podcast.
Ashley is a former President of the Down Syndrome Association of Greater Cincinnati and currently serves on their Education Advisory Board and Government Affairs Committee. She’s also a former Co-Chair of the National Down Syndrome Society’s (NDSS) Task Force on Inclusive Education, and she is a member of the National Down Syndrome Advocacy Coalition of the National Down Syndrome Congress (NDSC) and the Council of Parents Attorneys and Advocates (COPAA). She participated in the Wrightslaw/Institute of Special Education at William and Mary College of Law in 2016 (earning an Advocacy Certificate), returning for the Alumni Track in 2017 and serving as faculty in 2021. She also holds an Advanced Advocacy Certificate from COPAA. Ashley has done various speaking engagements for NDSC, International Dyslexia Association (IDA), Down syndrome affiliates like DSACK and DSANI, and other federal and state advocacy groups.
Ashley practices law state-wide in Kentucky and Ohio, makes all of the content for Ashley Barlow Co., and when not working, she is normally at the pool or baseball field with her husband and two sons, one of whom has Down syndrome.
